Inspired by Sir Isacc Newton
1704 (age 64)

Newton was the first to show a diagram using a prism as a beam expander, and also the use of multiple-prism arrays.

This inspired a Brazilian mechanic who needed to work in his shop despite the frequent power outage in the area. 

Physicist

Newton built the first practical reflecting telescope. His work on light was collected in his highly influential book Optics, published in 1704.
